The first time I participated in a plant medicine ceremony, I thought I was going to die. Not in the traditional ‘ego death’ kind of way either, but quite literally, lying slumped on the floor (a theme of my life), with my head in a bucket full of my own vomit (nice). The whole experience was at times so utterly terrifying and out of control, that death felt like an inevitable (and quite frankly, welcome) outcome.

And yet… here I am 8 years later, having lived to tell the tale, some of which I am ready to share with you. This intense night working (or being worked on?) with/by the plant known as ayahuasca, was without doubt one of the worst and most profound and heart expanding experiences of my life. Would I do it again? Probably not. Do I regret it? Absolutely not.

If I have seduced you to read further with all the delicious imagery of me and my vomit, then please take note that what follows is merely my own personal experience of working with ayahuasca. I am in no way suggesting from a professional perspective or otherwise, that plant medicine is something you might also want to explore. I am instead trusting that we are a community of grown adults here, who can make our own informed judgements about what is right for us on our healing and awakening path. This experience was simply one HUGE step on mine…..
